Canelo open to another rematch after defeating Golovkin

Canelo open to another rematch after defeating Golovkin

Alvarez, the new WBA and WBC middleweight champ, led for the majority of the fight.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, like most boxing fans around the globe, had his eyes trained on the megafight between Gennady Golvkin and Canelo Alvarez, which the latter won via a majority decision.

A year after the two fought to a draw, the second fight was nearly as close.

It was a high-quality and evenly-contested 12-round fight at T-Mobile Arena, where the two stars locked horns again - a year on from their drawn bout. The AP scored it 114-114.

This carried on much the same in rounds eleven and twelve, with Canelo showing a granite chin to stand up to a hailstorm of Golovkin power shots.

There was plenty of enthusiasm heading into last September's fight between Canelo and GGG, which included some memorable moments and flurry of punches. He kept the fight in the middle of the ring, he took the action to Golovkin and he was never hesitant to mix it up and trade blows.

One of the best fights I've ever seen!

Conlan tweeted: 'I don't think it was robbery, had Canelo winning and I really wanted Triple-G to win.

Golovkin lands a punch on Alvarez during their WBC/WBA middleweight title fight at T-Mobile Arena.

Ringside punch stats showed a close fight, though they favored Golovkin by a small margin.

"Canelo is a champion today, he deserves it, he fought a great fight", Sanchez said. Some very close rounds that could have went either way.

"I thought we did enough to win but I can't complain because Canelo fought a great fight and that's why we have the judges", Sanchez said after the fight.

He fought valiantly in the 12th round, opening with a big right uppercut, and then kept firing until the closing bell.

"If the people want us to do it again let's do it again, " Alvarez said. But for right now, I will enjoy time with my family. Even though he was not running this time, it doesn't mean he was controlling the fight. He was controlling the fight with that jab.

"Some very close rounds that could have went either way".

The 28-year-old Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) was ahead by the same score, 87-84, on each scorecard through nine rounds.

The win wiped away months of simmering acrimony which stemmed from Alvarez's failed drugs test in February, forcing the cancellation of a rematch scheduled in May.

"I showed my victory with facts", the native of Guadalajara through an interpreter.

"It was I who pushed [Golovkin] back, it was I who was most aggressive", Alvarez said. "It was a clear victory".
