Maurizio Sarri says Chelsea defence must improve to sustain title bid

Hazard now leads the goal-scoring charts with five goals.

Luiz's future at Stamford Bridge seemed uncertain after he made only nine Premier League starts for the club last season, but he has since established himself as a key member of new manager Maurizio Sarri's starting lineup.

The Blues' win over Cardiff City sent them to the top of the Premier League standings as they have won their first five games of the season.

Gianfranco Zola could be seen bowing to Chelsea's hat-trick hero, Eden Hazard, during the 4-1 win against Cardiff on Saturday afternoon.

"I think so", Sarri told BT Sport when asked if he thinks Hazard can score more than Salah, Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.

Last season Egypt worldwide Mohamed Salah and Englishman Harry Kane were the two players that scored more than 40 goals in England. We have spoken and I told him he can score 40 goals. "He has to improve some things, but he can do it", the Italian is quoted as saying by Sky Sports after Hazard scored a hat-trick against Cardiff over the weekend.

He already had an injury - everybody could see that. "We'll try to avoid passes to him". It's good news that it will be close.

'We need another step I think to be at the same level.

Hazard's first two goals came from layoffs by Olivier Giroud.

"Today he played very well without scoring, but very useful for his team-mates I think".

"So I have to organise better the defensive phase and the players have to understand that".

The west London club are two points clear of defending champions Manchester City but Sarri said both City and second-placed Liverpool are "better" than his side.

"I'm always happy when I play football", Hazard said. As a teenager, the Belgian had been a regular part of a good team, but upon turning 20 years of age he reached a level and has been on an nearly exclusively upward trajectory ever since.
