The gunman reportedly entered an office building in Middleton, Wisconsin, which is six miles north of the state capital, Madison.

The Dane County dispatch center said shots were fired Wednesday morning at a building that houses Esker Software and WTS Paradigm in Middleton. More than 40 Police Cars and a number of ambulances are on the scene, as people in the area of Deming Way were asked to stay away from the building, get inside, and lock their doors and windows.

Police have not released details on whether there have been any injuries.

Witnesses said a man had walked into a software company and opened fire, injuring multiple people. Police have set up a perimeter around the building.

Dane County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Elise Schaffer confirmed there is an "active shooter situation".

Cops in bulletproof vests and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were seen arriving shortly after a perimeter was established outside the business, which sits in a suburb of the city of Madison.
