Russian Federation furious after United States accuses Kremlin of CHEATING over North Korea sanctions

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley claimed Russian Federation meddled with a report by a UN panel of experts on sanctions on North Korea, widening the schism between the two veto-wielding countries of the 15-member Security Council.

"Russia has actively attempted to undermine the UN Security Council resolutions, the work of the ... committee at the UN that evaluates compliance with sanctions", Pompeo told a news briefing at the State Department.

Haley also noted that Moscow is constantly trying to undermine the sanctions regime against North Korea.

Haley said the panel should release the original report, which cited "a massive increase in illicit ship-to-ship transfers of petroleum products" for North Korea in violation of United Nations sanctions.

The council meeting was called by the United States after a report by an independent UN panel of experts was amended under pressure from Russia to remove sections that deal with Russian businesses.

Haley identified a Russian ship allegedly involved.

South Korea's foreign ministry said the move was in line with the United States' resolve to keep up sanctions to achieve complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula while carrying out dialogue.

Russia's ambassador to the United Nations denied the allegations, accusing Haley of making an "emotional statement" and of attempting to throw America's weight around the UN.

Barcelona vs. PSV Eindhoven - Football Match Report
Gameday 1 marked the long-awaited return of proper Champions League soccer, and it nearly looked like Messi and Co. never left. It was a pulsating encounter at the Camp Nou , but Barcelona produced a vintage performance, winning 4-0 against PSV.

He also denied the specific ship-to-ship transfer of fuel by a Russian ship was a violation.

Russian Federation wants to develop railway links between North and South Korea to export coal from its Far East region and reach South Korean ports, Haley said.

The Council has so far been unanimous in bolstering sanctions to choke off funding for Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

In addition to illegal oil transfers, the report called out Chinese firms for buying iron, steel, and other banned products from North Korea and maintaining illegal business partnerships with North Korean operations.

With world leaders arriving in NY for the annual meeting of the U.N. General Assembly and a meeting between Mr. Trump and Moon set to happen next week, the USA and its allies are under pressure to make progress on North Korean denuclearization.

South Korean Ambassador to the UN Cho Tae-yul acknowledged during the meeting that the "road ahead will be bumpy" and called for the global community to pursue the shared goal of complete denuclearization of the North with "patience, persistence and, above all, a united stance and solidarity". Pyongyang has pushed for an early declaration to end the 1950-53 Korean War, which ended with an armistice agreement.

More than 24,000 USA troops are stationed in South Korea, according to Department of Defense figures from 2016. South Korea's president Moon Jae-in will try to inject new life into the diplomatic talks when he meets Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang on Tuesday for a summit that will mark the first time a South Korean leader visits its northern neighbor in more than a decade. The U.S. says that resolutions had cut off all North Korean exports, which make up 90 percent of its trade.
