Nothing personal, Lions, but Rob Gronkowski reportedly nixed a trade

The four-time All-Pro refused to return calls from the Lions, stating he'd rather hang up his cleats than play for another organization.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots and Lions were "deep into trade discussions" last offseason on a deal that would have sent Gronkowski to Detroit.

And in fairness to Detroit - it's reported that Gronkowski would have nixed a deal to play anywhere other than with Tom Brady and the Patriots. The five-time Pro Bowler is said to have declined calls from Detroit, now coached by Matt Patricia - the former Patriots defensive coordinator - as New England worked to craft a stunning trade in the days leading up to this year's National Football League draft.

The champion is the clear favourite but he was taking nothing for granted and said he had trained for a tough fight. So who am I to go undefeated? "It's time to put on a performance".

The deal was thwarted when Gronkowski threatened to retire if he was shipped off to Motown.

The Packers already got a taste of Mack, who was traded to the Chicago Bears the week before the season opener.

Gronkowski, 29, has nine catches for 138 yards a touchdown this season. He was removed from New England's injury report Friday after being limited in Wednesday's practice because of an ankle injury.
