A Hurricane Watch has been issued from the Alabama-Florida border eastward to the Suwannee River. Over very warm waters and light upper level winds, the Hurricane Center said the storm could rapidly intensify over the next 24 to 36 hours. It will bring risky storm surge, damaging winds and heavy rain. The storm, the 7th Atlantic hurricane of 2018, was starting to form an eye.

The track takes the developing storm as a hurricane toward a landfall near the Florida Panhandle Wednesday. As Micheal moves north the storm will continue to strengthen, and it could become a major Category 3 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico by midweek.

On Monday morning, the National Weather Service issued a storm surge watch from Navarre to Anna Maria Island, including Tampa Bay. The Florida Panhandle and Big Bend areas are expected to receive as much as 12 inches of rain and may see flash flooding.
