The Walking Dead season 9 had the lowest rated premiere ever

After 8 seasons, how many more ways can you kill a zombie anyway?

To put it in further perspective in a television landscape where declining ratings have become the norm on broadcast and cable, the only season premiere of TWD lower than Sunday's just-over-an-hour episode was the 5.35 million that Season 1 debut snagged on Halloween 2010. While the numbers for AMC Premiere viewers have not yet been released (unclear if they will be), the audience which narrowly topped 6 million live viewers for the weakest premiere in the series' history might not be an accurate indication of the show's strength. While the current rating doesn't account for late or recorded viewings, it's unlikely that the episode will even come close to prior premieres.

The premiere episode was seen by 6.1 million viewers - down 47 percent from last fall's season 8 return, which was seen by more than 11 million people.

This season's premiere is also flirting with a tie for the series low in the key demo, which was a 2.4 set back during Season 1.

Saudi Arabia to supply extra oil to India as Iran sanctions loom
Indian Oil Corp (IOC) Chairman Sanjiv Singh said his company is among the two which have placed order for November. Washington's sanctions , targeting Iran's crude oil exports, are to come into force from November 4.

While still the second highest-rated show on TV behind NBC's This Is Us in the key demo, that's a lot of premiere numbers and perhaps a long-ish way of saying The Walking Dead's blockbuster days seem to be behind it, reset or not.

It's not clear how many members of the Walking Dead's team will be brought on at Skybound, but with 400 miles between the two developers - Telltale is located in San Rafael, CA, while Skybound is in Los Angeles, CA - that will still result in a move for anyone who does make the leap over to the new developer. The Live+3 and Live+7 numbers will provide a fuller portrait of how the premiere actually did.

The ninth season of The Walking Dead will mark leading actor Andrew Lincoln's final run with the series.
