Michael Bloomberg Registers as Democrat, Prompts Speculation About 2020

Tennessee Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen was filmed attending a fundraiser in New York City with multibillionaire - and now official Democrat - Michael Bloomberg.

Bloomberg, a former Republican and more recently declared political independent, announced his decision in an early morning Instagram post in which he referenced his speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Today, he released a picture of himself filling out his registration form and warning about threats to the Constitution that require checks and balances.

While in City Hall in New York, Bloomberg was mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2004 and 2008.

Despite his tryst with the Republican Party and his time spent being "independent", Michael Bloomberg has always belonged in the Democratic Party.

The billionaire business mogul - who endorsed Hillary Clinton over President Trump in the 2016 election - is heavily invested in helping elect Democrats in congressional midterm elections on November 6.

He considered running for president as an independent in 2016 but ultimately endorsed Hillary Clinton.

"It's impossible to conceive that I could run as a Republican - things like choice, so numerous issues, I'm just way away from where the Republican Party is today", Bloomberg said last month.

That's the party he belonged to most of his life before switching to the Republican party to run for mayor. "You got my vote if you run for president, we need someone like you!" another person wrote. The Guardian newspaper reported in August that he was considering running in 2020 as a Democrat.

Bloomberg has thrown money and support behind Democrats and is attacking Republicans on abortion and gun policies.

Last week, Bloomberg announced he would give $20 million to the main Democratic Senate super PAC.
