Beto O'Rourke smashes record, raises $38.1 million in three months

As of FEC numbers through the second quarter, the two were almost even, raising approximately $23.3 million each.

Through the first half of 2018, O'Rourke had already raised an impressive $23.6 million for the cycle and had almost $14 million in cash on hand for the campaign's home stretch. O'Rourke is a rising Democratic Party star who's drawn national attention to his campaign, and money has poured into the Texas race as party donors look for ways to channel their anger with President Donald Trump.

The haul more than tripled Republican incumbent Ted Cruz's fundraising for the past three months, which Cruz has said was over $12 million.

"And we more than doubled our budget from the 2016 cycle for 2018", she tweeted.

In their latest exciting moral victory, Democrats have now dropped $38.1 million on failing Texas senatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke, bringing his grand total to $61.2 million in a race he now trails by seven points, according to the RealClearPolitics poll average. And it shows the collective power of many relatively modest donations.

"Imagine what that $38 million could do in races where Dems aren't going to lose by 8 points", tweeted former Democratic staffer Caitlin Legacki, referring to recent polls that show Cruz leading by anywhere between five and nine points. The Democrat's cash haul was the largest amount raised by a U.S. Senate candidate in a single quarter, according to data from the Federal Election Commission, which goes back to 1994.

Full financial disclosures aren't due until next week, and neither O'Rourke nor Cruz has announced how much their campaign war chests are worth with the November 6 election looming.

But even if O'Rourke loses, the seemingly unprecedented enthusiasm behind his bid makes it unlikely that Texas - or the country - has seen the last of him.

The closely watched Texas race is the costliest Senate contest in the nation, the News reported.
