With Tom Brady, the Patriots confidence never wavered in comeback effort

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season.

The New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs played out the game of the season so far as a last-second field goal saw the Pats end the visitors' unbeaten start in what was a record 200th regular season win for Tom Brady.

Brady passed for 340 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score, diving head-first between two defenders in a rare run by the 41-year-old quarterback.

The win takes New England to 4-2 for the season but Brady has warned that there is more to come.

"I think we have a lot of clutch players", said Brady. "Because I thought the ball was gone, I didn't take him to the ground". I've hit him on that a bunch over the last two-and-a-half years.

Johnny Hekker is usually only seen booting the ball away for the LA Rams when their offence can't get things going, but he showed he's got the skills of Odell Beckham during the game in Denver.

The obvious problem for the Chiefs in this game was the defense. They lost on an evening when Mahomes threw second-half touchdown passes of 67 yards to Hunt and 75 yards to Hill. Instead, one of the most disciplined teams in the league left the NFL's most explosive playmaker wide open deep down the field.

"They had a good game plan", Mahomes said.

NFL's SNF Week 6: Jacksonville Jaguars @ Dallas Cowboys Preview
The Jaguars choke the run and will make the Cowboys have to consistently complete passes, which I don't believe will happen. Offensively, Jacksonville is averaging 416 yards per game, but it is only leading to 20.4 points per contest.

"It's tough to slow those guys down, they've been scoring a lot of points all year", Brady said. With time to throw but nowhere to go with the ball, Brady eventually realized it was run or bust.

The Chiefs also started 5-0 last season before losing six of their last 11 and falling in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

"We had confidence", Brady said.

But Mahomes still joined a dubious club.

Down 33-30 in the fourth quarter, it sure felt like the Patriots needed another touchdown.

Yet even though the Patriots' offense ultimately bailed the team out with a game-winning drive that sapped the game's final three minutes, the defense had bought New England time.

Michel rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's victory, his second 100-yard game this season. For the fifth week in a row, SNF was also up double digits from the 2017/2018 season with a very impressive 34% leap over the New York Giants' 23-10 crushing over the Denver Broncos on October 15, 2017. The last Patriots rookie with a rushing touchdown in three straight games was BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who did so in four straight in 2008.

No, Brady and the Pats didn't punt in the game.
