Next stop F1? Mick Schumacher can be 'one of sport's greats'

Before Monday's (NZ time) finale, Schumacher has moved 51 points clear of his nearest rival, Britain's Daniel Ticktum, and can no longer be caught in the third-tier racing series to clinch the first title of his young career.

Mick Schumacher, the 19-year-old son of seven-times Formula One world champion Michael, won the European Formula Three title at Hockenheim on Saturday with a race to spare.

Mick Schumacher missed his first chance to win the Formula Three European drivers' championship on Saturday after damaging his auto, but still has two opportunities to secure the title this weekend.

"I am so very grateful for being able to experience this, to live my dream and to have such a strong team behind and around me - that title is because of and for them! We do what we love, so to also perform well in it is the best feeling you can get".

"I have the team behind me, and people I can go to for relaxing", he said.

Winning numbers for $667 million Mega Millions jackpot
While California didn't sell the Mega Millions jackpot, Lotto officials tweeted that a 5 of 6 victor was sold in San Francisco. Six little numbered balls were drawn in the Mega Millions on Tuesday night, with a record jackpot of $667 million at stake.

Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport declared there is an "heir to the Schumacher dynasty" - 14 years after Michael Schumacher's last F1 world title and 28 years after he was crowned German F3 champions, at two years older than Mick is now. Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said: 'Attention was focused on the youngster right from the start and he was under a lot of pressure.

The German was undoubtedly the standout driver of the second half of the season.

"He has shown that he has what it takes and that he can become one of the greats in our sport".

Schumacher is now guaranteed a top-two finish in the final Formula Three standings meaning he will qualify for a FIA "super licence", a prerequisite for the jump to Formula One.

The crown also qualifies him to race in Formula 1 next season, although there are only a few open rides and the more obvious goal of conquering Formula 2.
