Major League Baseball star Bryce Harper rejects $300M offer from Nationals

Regardless of what the New York Yankees say during the early parts of this offseason, they will continuously be linked to free-agent megastar Bryce Harper.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo addressed the Harper situation Tuesday and acknowledged that the team has a talented options in the outfield without Harper if he were to sign elsewhere. "Its elite. Global, certainly", Boras said of working on a deal for Harper in free agency.

It's hard to find an executive, scout, or rival agent who doesn't believe that Harper will eventually sign with the Phillies, maybe a month from now when he can drive from his Las Vegas home to Mandalay Bay and make the official announcement himself.

According to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers tried to acquire Harper twice during the 2018 season. Rizzo said that offer is now off the table and the Nationals will go about their business.

The first time was before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and the second was when they claimed him before the waiver deadline but the Washington Nationals pulled Harper back, as expected. Washington tried to lock up Harper with one of the richest deals in baseball history before he became a free agent, but he opted to test the market. Hence why so many players have taken so long to sign contracts in recent years. Beltré turns 40 years old in April and has been slowed by injuries in the last two seasons, but he has thown that he can still hit and play defense capably. Nightengale says that Harper is seeking a 13-year deal that tops the average annual value of $34.42 million that Zack Greinke now has in his deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Harper posted a slash line of.249/.393/.496 with 34 home runs in 2018, and has a.900 career OPS with 184 homers. Bryce Harper is arguably the best player on the market.
