In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" to promote the book, the former first lady encouraged women to open up about their experiences with pregnancy, saying that "it's important to talk to young mothers about the fact that miscarriages happen". "We are in our pain and somehow think that we are broken", she described her then-feelings and those of many other women.

"I think I did what a lot of black folks were doin'", she told Roberts.
