California wildfire death toll reaches record as six more bodies found

The Woolsey Fire has gutted Malibu mansions and suburban homes, with celebrities recording the devastation on social media.

While Rod Stewart backed her up, writing: "Mr. President, while people's homes are burning, while lives are being lost & while firefighters are risking their lives, California needs words of support & encouragement, not threats or finger pointing & accusations".

While 25-year-old singer Cyrus described herself as "one of the lucky ones" after her house - also in Malibu - went up in flames. In the south, fires killed two people and destroyed at least 180 structures in the Malibu area.

It has consumed around 83,000 acres, destroyed at least 177 buildings and was ten percent contained, Cal Fire said Sunday.

"You just sit here in a fog and think you're going to wake up", she said.

The Californian wildfires that began on Thursday are the deadliest in the state's history.

As reported this morning, the death toll from the wildfires has risen to 31, while more than 200 people remain unaccounted for, officials have said.
