Trump backs Pence, dismisses ‘phony’ report he questioned loyalty

The New York Times reported Friday that Trump has been alarming advisers by repeatedly asking them to assure him of Pence's loyalty - but the president insists that's not accurate. "I would give them a quote, I would say it's not true", said the president.

Pence is representing Donald Trump at the summits, after the president opted not to attend - becoming the first USA head of state to skip the marquee Asian conferences since 2013.

"We had a good laugh and the president said to me 'there are no anonymous sources that would say what that article said"'. "Just more FAKE NEWS, the Enemy of the People!" "Mike Pence is a terrific person". "These geologic features, and their territorial seas, constitute less than 8 percent of the total area of the South China Sea", Carpio said.

Earlier Saturday, speaking to reporters at the White House before departing for California to survey damage from the state's wildfires, Trump dismissed the Times' report.

Per the Times, Trump has been asking people around him whether Pence is loyal to a surprising degree.

Pence said the report "came up" in his discussions with Trump, without providing more details. "He's already been tested in many ways", he said.

The expectations for this season are championship or bust, and Boston needs to start showing they can play with the best of them. LaVine, now in his fifth year out of UCLA, has scored 20 or more in every game this season, and 15 straight overall.

Maggie Haberman, a White House correspondent for the Times and a co-author of the story (who is also a former POLITICO reporter), disputed the president's account in a tweet Saturday.

Xi called on the U.S. to try to resolve issues through consultation based on the principle of "equality", warning the USA against escalating tensions and potential damage to global trade.

"The president absolutely supports the vice president and thinks he's doing an incredible job helping to carry out the mission and policies of this administration", Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley told the outlet.

But Trump brushed off the report and said he "couldn't be happier" with his vice president.

"We believe that progress could be made between our two nations, even as the United States remains in a strong position", Pence said.
