UEFA Nations League: Netherlands stand good in beating France, Germany relegated

Germany were relegated from Group A1 of the Nations League after Holland earned a surprise 2-0 win over France. "We know why we won against Germany and why we won against France", smiled Netherlands Head Coach Ronald Koeman.

Didier Deschamps admits France failed to perform after defeat to Holland left them in danger of failing to qualify for the Nations League finals.

In their last three matches, the Netherlands have beaten Germany 3-0, drawn with top-ranked Belgium 1-1, and outclassed France.

The result means the Netherlands can win the group if they draw against Germany tomorrow, usurping the last two World Cup winners to advance to next June's Nations League Finals.

"I was surprised by the France line-up and the way they played, but our match was ideal". Only a string of saves by France captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris managed to keep the score respectable for the recently crowned world champions.

Macedonia remain top of that group - and are 90 minutes away from the play-offs - thanks to a 2-0 win in Liechstenstein.

Celtics forward Marcus Morris available for tonight's game vs. Raptors
Stevens and the Celtics have been victorious in three straight home games against the Raptors dating back to February 2017. Kyrie Irving followed up his season-high 43-point virtuoso performance with 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Celtics.

"We tend to praise attacking players, but there is one that impresses me and that's the young De Jong in midfield, with his intelligence, his ability to bring the ball out and get it forward", said Deschamps on Thursday.

"We played to the minimum of our potential and paid for it".

Georginio Wijnaldum scored just before half-time and Memphis Depay converted a late penalty as the Dutch dominated against the world champions, looking much changed from the side that missed out on the 2016 European Championship and the World Cup this year.

"It shows that we have a bright future, we have to continue like this".

That stat extended to seven losses in 11 as France came from a goal down to defeat Germany 2-1 and leave Die Mannschaft needing results to go their way to stay in the hunt. But to be better than we were against France will be very hard.

Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum threatened the French goal in the early going before Les Bleus won back possession, almost taking the lead on a shot by Benjamin Pavard that went just over the cross-bar.
